Arab League Chief Observes Water Shortage As Source Of Regional Instability


Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul Gheit said Saturday the phenomenon of water shortage became a source of social and economic instability in some Arab countries. The manifestations of this problem have been clearly seen in Syria, Yemen and Palestine, he said at the opening session of the fifth meeting of the Arab Water Council (AWC). On Yemen, Abul Gheit said a serious shortage of water has led to similar [as Syria] conflict, and social and economic turmoil.
