The African Development Bank (AfDB) has committed $100 Million USD to establish an Emergency Recovery Fund to begin reconstruction efforts in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai which struck southern Africa in mid March. An AfDB delegation met with representatives of Malawi’s government and civil society April 24, saying that part of the bank’s fund will support the country with an emergency relief package and also measures to combat the effect of climate change in the Southern African region.
