United States To Start Cleaning Up Agent Orange Contamination At Vietnam Air Base

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Vietnam’s Air Defense and Air Force Command launched a dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa Airport – a former airbase for U.S. forces where the notorious chemical Agent Orange was stored – in the southern province of Dong Nai on April 20. The assessment identified roughly 500,000 cubic meters of dioxin-contaminated soil and sediment in need of remediation. The amount of dioxin in the area is almost four times higher than that found at Danang International Airport, located in the central coastal city of Danang, where a similar operation was completed last November.
