Movement of the embankment of iron ore giant Vale SA’s decommissioned Gongo Soco mine pit near the city of Barão de Cocais has been detected by radar, the company has reported. It is predicted that, if the movement continues, the embankment could weaken and cause the tailings dam to burst sometime between 19 and 25 May.
