California Adjusts North-South Water Transfer Project

Gavin Newsom, the new Governor of California, United States, has announced that the State will withdraw permit applications to state and federal water and wildlife agencies to build two giant water transfer tunnels under the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.The two-tunnel transfer project, chamioned by former Governor Jerry Brown, would have cost about $19 Billion USD. Citing the threats of climate change to the state’s water infrastructure and reliability, Newsom's new plan, announced May 1, is to begin environmental work for a one tunnel solution and a number of related actions required to develop a comprehensive state-wide strategy and build a climate-resilient water system...
