Chile: Senate Rejects Water Rights Constitutional Reform

SANTIAGO

The Chilean Senate's decision to reject the idea of legislating a constitutional reform to enshrine water as a public good was described as a national disgrace on Thursday. The text received 24 votes in favor and only 12 against, but was rejected because the 29 votes required (two-thirds system) for its approval were not reached, which continues to generate criticism in social, political and academic circles.
