Nisar Memon, former federal minister and senator in Pakistan, comments about the importance of the Kabul River and the dependence on it of both Pakistan and Afghanistan for drinking water, agriculture, and hydroelectic power generation. He calls for integrated development of the river basin to maximize growth in both the countries, rather than the historical division of water and unilateral development. He points out that the political mistrust and absence of knowledge and data sharing by both sides are key inhibitors to achieve the desired results.
